GOLDEN MATHEMATICS ACADEMY

We want to change the perception that Mathematics is difficult in South Africa. We offer lessons from Grade R to Grade 12. Mathematics is a language that utilize symbols, notations, geometric, and graphical relationships. Its practicality involves but not limited to observing, investigating, and representing. Learners should be able to develop logical and critical thinking, accuracy and problem solving, and tactical decision-making. Our specific aims are:

  •  Developing fluency in computation skills without much reliance in usage of calculators
  •  Developing learners who have the ability to be methodical, make conjectures, and try to solve them.
  • Ability to understand and work with real number system
  • Preparing learners for further education and training as well as real world problem solving.

Our approach fosters Excellency in mathematics:

·        Have a maximum of 10 learners per session  to allow the tutor to give attention to learners at all times; in such a way that no learner is left behind- including slow learners.

·        We further utilise effective strategies to deliver mathematics to learners in such a way that it is easily understood and learners can apply the taught concepts. Some of these strategies are:

-        Visualisation: we use photos, audio clips, as well as videos to enhance learning. At the end of each chapter, we provide CD’s to learners so that they can watch at home to revise taught lessons.

-        Most tutors/ and or educators believe that mathematics does not require class notes. However, like any subject- notes are needed to understand basic concepts. We provide well-summarized notes, including brief definitions.

-        Training on how to use a calculator: some learners fail to get correct answers because of their inability to use a calculator- our well-trained tutors provide extra material to learners on how to use a scientific calculator effectively.

-        Teaching learners on how to approach questions during assessments such as exams and tests: we provide plenty of examples that are exam based using past examination questions

-        Cooperative learning: encouraging learners with mixed abilities to work together in groups during class activities.

-        Technology in the classroom: we are living in the digital world and transiting to the fourth industrial revolution; for example, using WhatsApp, Facebook Group, and/ or telegram channels to encourage learners to pose questions if they face a problem in real time while solving mathematics problems. In addition, Golden Mathematics Academy will provide recorded material through, you tube channels, and Facebook page live streams

-        Preparing learners thoroughly for final exams, especially for Grade 12- we make sure to complete the various topics earlier to allow plenty revision. Our learners write a minimum of five past exam papers each (both paper 1 & paper 2) so that they understand how the exam is structured; the speed needed to complete the exam on scheduled time and the allocation of marks for different topics. We further  encourage learners to show working as much as possible to gather more marks

NB! Our tutors work on rotational basis and they are capable of teaching mathematics from Grade 8 to 12. A tutor who starts with learners from Grade 8 go with them up to Grade 12; which is effective in that learners become used to the tutor teaching methods.
